“Great to see some alternative design solutions demonstrated on this striking gable form, cleavery adorned with sunshade eyebrows to reduce the overheating potential. The aluminium windows are thoughtfully recessed into the warmer sections of the walls, enhancing energy efficiency. Inside, double-height spaces create a sense of openness with delightful design features adding both functionality and style to the home.”
The owners Nikki and Matt’s brief was to design and build a home that was as close as possible to Passive House Standards whilst staying within their budget and incorporating their design preferences.
Early engagement of Baumann Builders to work together with Performance Architecture and CGW Engineers from the start meant that all aspects from design to construction were discussed as a team with a focus on delivering the best possible result for the owners.
Nikki used her interior design skills to finish her home with stunning colours, materials and fittings. There are three bedrooms, two luxurious bathrooms and an office space in the open mezzanine area. Perfectly designed windows provide picture frame views all around the beautiful Cashmere Estate and minimize overheating.
The kitchen feels light and spacious with a double height ceiling and the lounge is a cosy and comfortable space to relax in. Using SIP panels for thestructure delivers an excellent level of airtightness and R-value, it also provides high bracing levels and superior performance in earthquakes.
Recessed, thermally broken aluminium windows with Low-E, argon filled glass further help with the thermal performance. The garage was designed with trusses to accommodate the ducted heatpump and mechanical ventilation system maintaining a comfortable temperature and good air quality.
Excellent collaboration and a clear focus on energy efficiency have achieved low running costs and a comfortable, healthy living environment for the owners – a great result.
