WELLINGTON REGIONAL HEALTHY HOUSING GROUP

The Wellington Regional Healthy Housing Group (WRHHG) is a network of industry bodies, community-based organisations, councils, health organisations, and government agencies working to reduce housing and housing-related health inequities through collaboration, sharing information and ideas, and cross-sectoral leadership.

The Vision for WRHHG is: Healthy safe homes for the wellbing of everyone in the Wellington region.

Five high-level outcomes are sought:

• Good data for action and accountability

• Laws and rules for healthy homes are effective and aligned, including government commitment to a pathway for incremental Building Code updates

• Homes are improved to perform effectively and efficiently

• People in all parts of the system are resourced to live in, improve and build healthy homes – including property-tied long-term financing and advice for retrofits, and funded government commitment for performance-focused retrofit of existing homes

• People are centred and supported by joined-up cross-sectoral healthy housing action

WRHHG research includes an analysis of the NZ news media’s reporting on homes and health, analysis of Parliamentary Hansard records to analyse how politicians talk about (un)healthy housing, and narratives and communications guidance (with The Workshop).
